Warm-up Ring Rules and Tips for Equestrians

At equestrian competitions, riders are required to follow the warm-up ring rules to ensure the safety of themselves, their horses, and the horses and riders around them.

In the warm-up ring, riders heading towards one another should always pass with the other rider to their left side. When passing horses moving in the same direction, the horse and rider wanting to pass should do so on the side facing the inside of the ring rather than on the rail.

Riders should always keep their horses at a safe distance from other horses, especially those who have a red ribbon in their tails which indicates the horse kicks out at other horses. Additionally, riders and horses that are jumping always have the right of way, meaning that others should stay out of the way to avoid a collision.
